A Chit Chat with Arabia Weddings: Jewelry Designer Luma Qusus Awad

Luma Qusus Awad is a Jordanian Jewelry designer  presenting  themed hand-made Customized and ready to wear jewelry for all occasions.

Arabia Weddings had a chit chat with Luma, and here is what she had to say:

  • Where do you get your inspiration from?

Anything can inspire me; from places I travel to and people I meet to nature. Sometimes it’s simply the mood I’m in. My inspiration is then translated into wearable pieces.

  • What elements do you use in most of your pieces?

I mostly use metals from silver, 18 karat gold plating and brass. I also use semi precious stones I collect from many places as well as ribbons and fabrics. It all depends on the collection I’m working on. I love the collage of materials in one piece.

"Jewelry however must complement the dress

and the overall look of the bride giving it the last touch"

  • What do you advise a bride-to-be to wear on her big day? Bold jewelry or something simple?

The style and taste of the bride should influence her look, as well as the design of the dress. The bride should look her best on this day. Jewelry however must complement the dress and the overall look of the bride giving it the last touch. So it all depends on the style and theme the bride is following on her special day.

  • Do you have a special collection for brides? If so, please describe it.

I customize a lot for my clients. In the pastfew years, I have done tiaras and head pieces embellished with Swarovski crystals and special shapes of fresh water pearls. These pieces were exclusively made for clients that were looking for something different and unique. As for jewelry, I don’t have a special bridal line that is ready, but I’m always happy to customize something unique and special for my client. Also, a bride should have other jewelry and accessories for her honeymoonand other events before and after her wedding.Brides can always contact me for unique customized pieces.

  • Are there any new trends for brides when it comes to jewelry?

World jewelry fashion trends this year concentrate on colored stones from fancy colored diamonds to rubies, emeralds and sapphire, centered on groups of diamonds. It is no longer the white diamond trend.Jewelers and designers are looking into other options to make the bridal jewelry more interesting and colorful. This choice of course is subject to budget.

  • Every bride deserves to look and feel her best on her big day. Have you considered creating an affordable jewelry line for the budget-conscious bride?

With today’s economy, many designers think of other options for bridal jewelry. There are many ways to offer a beautiful design while still being affordable.Alternative jewelry is an option; instead of diamonds, you could use crystals and gold that is less than 14 karats. As I mentioned earlier, I customize for my clients so all these options are considered when I’m designing a piece.
