A Chit Chat with Arabia Weddings: Majeda Kassir Bisharat of My Event Design

My Event Design provides Arab brides with top-of-the line event planning services to guarantee them memories for a lifetime.

Parties, weddings, dinners, anniversaries and other special occasions are just a few of a list of many events the Jordanian wedding planner, Majeda Kassir Bisharat, has managed to trademark in the world of event planning.

We had the chance to ask Majeda a few questions about her beginnings, and here is what she had to say:

  • Tell us more about yourself and how you got into wedding planning in Jordan.

My appreciation for all things beautiful started very early on. I was always able to understand the importance of attention to detail, intricacy and craftsmanship.

When I went to Italy to study fashion design and Italian at Istituto Callegari in Trviso, my keen eye for beauty became even more thirsty to discover more about this world, and I knew that I needed to bring the taste of high fashion and international style to the Middle East.

I never let go of my experience in Europe and I carried it with me after coming back to Jordan. I started incorporating my passion into all my dinner parties, and seeing the joy my guests got from noticing the small details of a table setting or atmosphere just made it clearer that I was truly doing something right.

The turning point for me was when a friend of mine asked me to design her engagement party. Here I was, being asked, for the first time, to design and execute an event that will forever be etched in a couple’s minds. The bliss I felt when I watched the joy on people’s faces at the event, showed me a glimpse of the bigger picture that comes with becoming an event planner. That event marked the day I knew I wanted to do this for as long as my imagination allows me to, and here I am still going at it.

  • What are the hottest trends in weddings this season? Which is your favorite?

Like every other creative industry out there, new trends are continuously on the rise, and old trends re-appear every now and then.  Some of this year’s hottest wedding themes are all-time favorites: Rustic, vintage, bohemian and the garden tale with a lingering sense of intimacy.

This year is all about the rustic look! From table runners, to stained mirrors, and bohochic set-ups, I love how this theme can truly transport guests to the dreamy countryside.

There is also something so beautiful about bringing back some sort of history to a modern-day party, and simple touches of vintage pieces can contribute greatly to the atmosphere, as well as the conversation. Of course, romance and drama are still dominant classical themes, with lots of candles, candelabras, chandeliers, lanterns and fairy lights.

Pastel colors are also very-inn, especially ivory, pops of green, antique pinks and soft coral.

Succulents, baby breath, herbs, peonies, foliage, floral garlands, and hanging floral arrangements, are also some of the most trending flowers this year. In my opinion there is nothing more romantic than the bohemian feel; the lace, ruffles, and all that comes with that style can truly bring intimacy into a very large party.

But I think the best theme of all is combining all of the above into one party and having that eclectic feel in order to bring to life, what I like to call, the Garden Tale Wedding. The wedding tale where wonder and magic come together to tell the tale of two lovers.

  • What is the most outrageous thing a couple has asked to have at their wedding?

To be honest, I believe in my clients’ vision, and that is why it is very difficult for me to see them as outrageous.

  • What is the most favorite wedding you organized and why? What elements did it include? Where was it held?

Every event tells a story so I take on every event with a blank slate. I am proud of each and every one of my events. I nurture them with my know-how and experiences, as I watch them grow from rough drafts and inspirations into events and memories.

However, one of the recent weddings that I planned “the Winter Wonderland” definitely stands out as one of the magical ones. It took place during my favorite time of the year, Christmas. Everything around me inspired me to create a warm, charming and dreamy feel for the event.

I combined different elements to obtain a sense of intimacy and joy that this season brings to all people from different backgrounds. Upon entering the venue, guests were welcomed with mirrored reflections of a draped hallway along with 2D Christmas trees with fairy lights installed that flickered like dancing stars.

From the distinctive layout, tablescape, flowers, lighting, gobo effect, and white snow-like wall and carpet covering of the main ballroom area, I paid attention to every detail to ensure that instant effect on guests, zapping them into a real Winter Wonderland.

The most thought-provoking section of this event was the church, where I created a proper Orthodox Church ceremony at the Foyer.
