A 22-year-old girl from Punjab and 3 others were injured after a young man threw acid on her while she was getting ready for her wedding in Ludhiana.
The assailant apparently wanted to marry her. He had come with his friends and fled after throwing acid and a letter at the victim accusing her of "betrayal".
Employees of the beauty salon and another bride getting ready for her wedding were injured in the attack.
Police have arrested one of the accused but have not disclosed his identity yet.
The episode was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the salon.
The man then fled leaving the bride seriously injured in her face, chest and abdomen.
Police said the girl was to get married to a man who owns a transport business. The assailant who is said to be the brother of a friend of the victim had come in a car with four others. Police said the girl belonged to a poor family.
According to police, the attacker's letter said that he was in love with the girl for the past three years and she tying the knot with someone else was not acceptable to him.
The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is said to be serious. "The victim has suffered over 50% burns and her condition is serious. The other two victims have received 10 to 15% burns and they are stable," a doctor said.
