Couples descending on Gretna, can now ask for their big day to be given the Las Vegas treatment and have an Elvis impersonator play a role in proceedings.
It’s the idea of Jackie Hampson, who owns the Anvil Hall and The Chapel Gretna Green with family, and is a big fan of The King.
She said “me and my sister are Elvis fans and we go to a lot of weekenders, we’ve been all over, to Birmingham, London and Benidorm, they are quite big events. The last one I’d been to was in Blackpool. I thought I would like to come from a different angle and bring a bit of Vegas to Gretna. Marry my love of Elvis and wedding connections.”
To kick-off the idea Jackie is hosting her own Gretna Elvis Weekender this weekend.
Among the things on offer is a raffle to win a wedding at one of the venues, a gospel morning and a mock wedding so people can see how they are run on the site.
“My son’s girlfriend has a very similar look to Priscilla when she was younger so she will be dressing up too,” added Jackie. “It’s not a competition it’s just a celebration and a weekend of fun and allowing people to see what Gretna Green is about.”
But for those who have Suspicious Minds about the whole concept, the Elvis tribute acts are all acclaimed.
Jackie said: “We can do it as a bit of fun or quite serious, however they want their day to go.”
It is hoped that the Elvis weekender could turn into an annual event.
