After taking the gold medal in the men's 200m kayak sprint at the London 2012 Olympics, Ed McKeever is planning his wedding with his fiancé Anya Kuczha.

Ed won gold medal on Saturday in the men’s 200m kayak at the London 2012 Olympics.

Anya is a PE teacher originally from Poland, and the couple will be getting married in September.

He proposed to her over a bowl of ice cream last January and then promptly disappeared the next day to a training camp in Australia for six weeks.

She said that the wedding is on 22 September near their home in Beaconsfield, Bucks, and may now contain more kayak references than she perhaps would have wished.

McKeever’s best man is his training partner Ed Cox. His fiance, whom he met when they were both students at Kingston University, told of his incredible ability to focus on his sport.

She said she was pleased, now the event is over, to get her man back. "I am so proud of Ed. I was nervous but it was amazing to see him cross the finish line and get gold," said Anya Kuczha, "I knew he had it in him but you always worry that the crowd and the pressure may have an effect."

"It’s not going to be a kayak themed wedding. We didn’t go for that but the people in the crowd were saying that they were going to get their paddles out. I hope they won’t bring them to the wedding."

"The best man is Ed’s training partner so I have a feeling something very kayak related may happen."
