According to Egypt's statistical agency CAPMAS (Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics) Egypt saw %2.7 more marriages in 2012 from 2011 and %2.2 more divorces in the same period.
The total number of marriages in 2012 reached 933,400 in comparison to 898,000 in 2011.
Rural Egypt has more marriages, accounting for %54.9 of total marriages.
The national divorce rate increased to %2.2 with 155,300 documented in 2012 in comparison to 151,900 in 2011. The majority of divorces are documented in the urban areas, estimated at %59.1 of the total.
Notably, most divorcees among men are between the ages of 30 - 35 estimated at %19.7.
Among women, the highest divorce rate is documented between the age of 25 - 30 constituting %23.4 of the total.
