A woman in the UAE had to borrow after spending husband’s money on dress rather than wedding party.
A man divorced his wife as he was angry at her for spending more than $40,000 on her wedding dress instead of using the money to pay for their wedding party.
As part of the marriage contract (prior to the wedding party), the man agreed to pay the woman AED 150,000 (about $40,000) to spend on the wedding party and its preparations and invitation cards.
After the wedding party, the husband came to know that his wife had a debt of between AED 150,000 and AED 200,000, money that she had borrowed to pay for the party.
Upon confronting his wife, she admitted to her husband that she had spent the AED 150,000 (about $40,000) that he gave to her on a white party dress.
Sources close to the case told Gulf News that the husband got very angry and filed for a divorce before a Sharia court.
The outraged husband decided to leave his wife shortly after she confessed to him that she had not informed him prior to the wedding party that relatives and friends had lent her money to cover the expenses.
“The wife was exposed when her lenders asked her to repay the money … the woman had to divulge the bitter truth and she asked him to repay her debt as well,” the source said.
The husband was granted divorce.
