A man from Sheboygan, US, who battered his wife on their wedding night has been sentenced to jail time and fined.
Jeffrey J. Schuette, 26, was sentenced this week in Sheboygan County Circuit Court to six months jail for his misdemeanor charge of battery. He also was ordered to pay $555.
Schuette's 22-year-old bride told police that after their wedding reception, the two were too intoxicated to drive to their wedding night hotel, but Schuette insisted on driving to the hotel anway. The bride got a ride from someone else.
When they got to the hotel, the bride told Schuette that he ruined her wedding night. Schuette then "snapped" and punched the bride in the face several times until she was able to escape and lock herself in the bathroom and called her mother in law to come and help.
As Schuette's parents were coming into the hotel, he was leaving the hotel after throwing all the bride's belongings into the hotel hallway.
The wife told police that she and Schuette had been together for four years and that he had been violent towards her numerous times in the past, but she reported it this time because she knew she'd be unable to hide her injuries.
