Hilary Duff has filed for divorce from her husband Mike Comrie, according to new reports. The actress and singer is said to have cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split on court documents which were filed on 20 February.
According to TMZ, Hilary has listed the couple's separation date as January 2013, a year earlier than news of their split was made public, and is seeking sole custody of their son Luca Cruz Comrie, who turns three next month.
Hilary announced that she and Mike had split in January 2014, nearly two years after the couple welcomed baby Luca on 20 March 2012.
A spokesperson for the Lizzie McGuire actress confirmed that Mike and Hilary had "mutually decided upon an amicable separation.
"They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives," her publicist told People magazine. "They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son."
At the time, sources close to the couple maintained that they were still close and that no major incident had caused them to split.
"They really did drift apart," a source told People.
"They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples' therapy, but in the end, they realised at this time, they work better as friends. And they really are great friends."
Several months later, however, it seemed that the couple were giving things another go and after being spotted affectionately cuddling up to to one another during day trips out with Luca, they headed off on a romantic break to the Bahamas.
In August Hilary hinted that a possible reconciliation was on the cards when she revealed that she had written a song about her and Mike on her latest album."It's about my separation and my love for this person," she said. "That maybe we're not meant to be together, maybe we are. It's very, very personal."
In spite of their close relationship, however, it now seems that the couple have decided to part ways for good.
Hilary first began dating former ice hockey player Mike in 2007 after the met on a skiing holiday in Idaho. The duo later wed in a fairytale ceremony in Santa Barbara in August 2010.
