An oil executive has been ordered to pay nearly $1 billion to his ex-wife, in one of the largest US divorce judgments in history.
Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources who is worth an estimated $14 million, must pay former wife Sue Ann Ham a total of $995.5 million in a ruling by an Oklahoma judge.
Mr Hamm, 68, will then be required to pay in installments worth at least $7 million per month, according to court documents.
Mr and Mrs Hamm, who have two daughters and were married for more than 25 years, did not sign a prenuptial agreement.
Mr Hamm, whose company owns one million acres in North Dakota's Bakken oil field, is thought to own more oil underground than any other American.
