The moment when an Irish bride spotted her emigrant brother in the church after telling her he wasn’t coming was captured in one of the year’s most wonderful wedding photos.
Bride Avril Hunt was snapped in ‘utter shock’ as she spotted her brother Paul in the congregation after he told her he would not make it home from Australia for the nuptials.
"It was complete and utter shock. Paul lives in Melbourne with his girlfriend and their daughter Isabella and I didn’t think he’d make it," the bride told Independent.ie.
"I really didn’t expect to see him at the church. I had just spoken to him on the phone while I was at the hairdressers and we had made a little video to send him as he was missing the wedding," said Avril who married her fiancée Colin Dowd St. Fidelma’s Church in Tulsk on Monday.
The photo, taken by Roscommon based photographer Elaine Lally, has been shared extensively throughout social media since it was uploaded.
