The landmark 10th edition of the region’s premier wedding fair – The Perfect Wedding Show – got under way at Expo Centre Sharjah on Wednesday (March 4).

Aimed at catering to the surging wedding market, the show is featuring some of the most sought-after wedding service providers, besides bringing together celebrity designers, couturiers, décor specialists and caterers.

The four-day show was opened by Mrs. Khawla Al Serkal, Director of Sharjah Ladies Club. It will continue until Saturday(March 7).

The Perfect Wedding Show has completed a decade of unmatched success. We have succeeded in positioning the show as a vibrant platform for wedding planners, retailers, boutiques and others to directly offer their products and services to a highly receptive consumer base,” said Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre Sharjah.

“A growing economy, young population, good job opportunities and a rise in the number of weddings have helped the show to establish itself as a premier event for the weddings industry in the region,” added Mr. Midfa.

According to the latest data available with the UAE National Bureau of Statistics, there has been a nearly 10 per cent increase in the number of marriages registered in the UAE in 2013 as against 2012. After remaining stagnant near 15,000 for the past several years, the number of marriages went up from 14,934 in 2012 to 16,441 in 2013.

With 7,411, nearly half of the total number of marriages that took place was between Emirati men and women, while expatriate couples accounted for 6,023.

Wedding service providers and industry experts said the figure may have seen a double-digit growth in 2014 as well, and will go up in the coming years as the wedding industry is preparing for a big leap in business in the wake of regional economies getting ready to host mega events like the World Expo 2020 and the FIFA World Cup 2022.

World-class infrastructure, tourism, hospitality & recreation facilities, and its proximity to Europe, Africa and much of Asia have made the UAE a popular wedding destination in the world.

“The fairy-tale wedding settings that the UAE can offer would be hard to be matched elsewhere. No wonder, the country has consistently found its place among the top 10 destinations to get married abroad,” added Mr. Midfa.

Celebrating its 10th edition, The Perfect Wedding Show is presenting a high-voltage fashion show, a mega prize of a bridal dress worth Dhs. 60,000, a dedicated visitor lounge, bridal wear from top brands, bridal couture shows, hairstyling & make-up demos.

Lebanese fashion designer Rani Zakhem inaugurated the Exclusive Fashion Show, where visitors can check out some of the best creations in bridal wear, haute couture, abayas and jalabiyas.

The show is also offering a lucky bride-to-be a chance to win a royal wedding dress worth Dhs. 60,000 by Emirati fashion designer Aisha Al Muhairi.

The Lounge, which is a new addition to the show, has become the gathering point for visitors, where they can relax, enjoy refreshments and treat themselves to manicure and pedicure sessions.
