Here are some fun facts you didn't know about sapphire:

Named after the Greek word "Sapphirus", meaning blue, priests and kings considered sapphire a symbol of wisdom and purity.

Sapphire was also the engagement stone of Princess Diana, and is now worn by the Duchess Kate Middleton.

Believe it or not, ancient civilizations believed that the world was set upon an enormous sapphire, which painted the sky blue with its reflection.

It is also believed to repel evil spirits and protect the wearer from illness.
