Bridal Approved Looks from The Met Gala 2023
One of the most popular fashion events, The Met Gala, took place recently and it is indeed a source of inspiration for brides-to-be.
The theme for the 2023 Met Gala was all about honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who is known for his work across the industry but especially for his time at Chanel.
If there's one thing we can be certain of regardless of the dress code, it's that the red carpet will serve up some instantly-iconic looks.
The Met Gala 2023 had a long list of attendees who wanted to have a moment as a Karl Lagerfeld bride. The designer’s Chanel haute couture shows always ended with a bride and it was seen as a real honor to be selected to close the show.
Many of the bridal looks were spotted on the red carpet, Gisele Bündchen wore a feathered cape and a sequin gown from the 2007 collection. Elle Fanning even wore a flower crown with a bouquet of fresh daisies, the perfect bridal accessory to her ivory lace Vivienne Westwood gown.
Take a look at these stunning bridal-approved looks at the 2023 Met Gala.
Dua Lipa in Chanel Couture and Tiffany & Co
The superstar songstress is one of the event’s 2023 co-chairs alongside tennis player Roger Federer and actresses Penélope Cruz and Michaela Coel.
Dua Lipa wore a bridal look from Chanel’s fall 1992 couture collection, which was sported by supermodel Claudia Schiffer during its runway debut. The cream tweed gown is lined with black thread and features fringe at the hem, pockets, and a corset-style bodice. Lipa paired the dress with metallic silver pumps.
But Dua Lipa's choice of accessories is what caught everyone's attention, particularly, that jaw-dropping diamond necklace!
Lipa became the first star to wear Tiffany & Co.’s new Legendary diamond, which is set on the label’s Lucida Star necklace. The white Legendary diamond is over 100 carats and pays homage to the shape of the iconic yellow Tiffany diamond via its near-identical cushion cut. According to the label, the new white diamond is D-colored, features 82 facets, and is responsibly sourced from Botswana.
Gisele Bündchen in Chanel Haute Couture
Gisele wore a flamboyant look from the Chanel archive that might look a little familiar to those who are fully paid-up fans of her style.
The Brazilian supermodel’s ethereal dress cut from white silk tulle and embroidered with vertical stripes of sequins was the bridal look in Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 2007 Chanel couture show.
The dress had a sweeping cape embellished with feathers and camellia flower details that topped off the look.
The supermodel accessorized with a pair of white strappy sandals and a silver Chanel clutch. Her jewelry included a diamond cocktail ring and drop earrings.
Anne Hathaway in Atelier Versace
Anne Hathaway channeled some of Karl Lagerfeld’s most famous muses, 1990s supermodels for her return to the Met Gala red carpet.
The star wore a Swarovski crystal-embellished dress by Versace and a coin necklace by Bulgari.
Anne Hathaway wore an Atelier Versace gown that blended Chanel design signatures as white tweed and pearl detailing with iconic Versace touch like the gold safety pins holding the bodice together. Hathaway finished the bombshell look with a matching set of gloves, glittering choker necklace, and beehive half updo.
Anne looked powerful, feminine, stunning, and of course iconic. Exactly like Karl made women feel in his dresses.
Penélope Cruz in Chanel Couture
The Met Gala 2023 red carpet look from Penelope Cruz showcases the spring-summer Chanel couture gown from 1988. The floor-length high-white Chanel gown Cruz donned has a multi-layered voluminous bottom half with a fitted waist and sleeves that delicately fall off the shoulders.
Slicked-back high-shine hair with a middle part set the base for a beautiful white veil embellished with the same silver and sparkling jewels that decorate the couture Chanel gown. A neutral face with a nude lip and luminous highlit cheekbones continue the airy and angel-like aura that Cruz brought to the red carpet for Met Gala 2023.
Olivia Wilde in Chloé
Olivia Wilde took inspiration from the ‘80s for her 2023 Met Gala look. Olivia wore a custom gown inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s 1983 Violin dress.
Originally presented in black, Olivia’s white version featured the same high neck, side cutouts, and giant golden violin panel right in the center.
The glittering instrument, which is embroidered with pearls and dotted with rhinestones, was styled with Wonder Woman-style cuffs, which were presented as gloves on the runway.
Wilde’s outfit was finished with swinging diamond drop earrings, as well as two wide gold mesh arm cuffs for an armored effect.
Elle Fanning in Vivienne Westwood
Elle Fanning was dressed impeccably to honor the late designer who touched her life so deeply. For a woodland take on the Chanel bride, Fanning wore a lace Vivienne Westwood gown with a black bolero jacket.
She wore her hair down in loose waves and accessorized with a flower crown with black ribbons and a bouquet of fresh flowers.
The styling for Fanning's look directly channeled the outfit she wore for the photoshoot when she first met Lagerfeld. "When I first heard the MET Ball theme was honoring Karl Lagerfeld, I started to reflect on memories we had shared together," Fanning wrote in an Instagram post that shared the inspiration for her look.
Miranda Kerr in Dior couture
Miranda was as pretty as a princess in an off-white gown from designer Dior with pearl embellishments.
The glamorous garment was cinched in at the waist and featured a tastefully low-cut neckline to reveal the model's décolletage.
The floor-length gown had a petite train for a touch of drama and elegant straps on the shoulders. She paired her frock with a diamond choker, along with matching earrings and a ring.
She carried a rose gold clutch in one hand and had streaks of blonde through her brown hair.
Mindy Kaling in SIMKHAI
Mindy Kaling turned heads in an eye-catching silver ensemble. The actress graced the 2023 Met Gala carpet in a silvery-white Jonathan Simkhai dress with a fitted bodice and floor-length fringe accent in the back.
She finished off her glamorous look with Kwiat pear shape and Ashoka cut diamond flower and fringe earrings, a Fred Leighton Edwardian pearl and diamond ring, and a Fred Leighton, 5.0 ct old mine cut diamond ring.
Taking a cue from the pearl concept that pays an ode to Karl Lagerfeld’s design legacy, Mindy Kaling’s corset-type dress featured floral motifs that have a 3D effect to it.
