A Chit Chat with Arabia Weddings: Farah Asmar

Farah Asmar, a Jordanian designer who studied graphic and fashion design at Istituto Marangoni-London, is now one of the most popular Arab designers when it comes to handbags.Farah is now creating stunning and show stopping handbags for women. She started off as a fashion designer but then shifted her interest to handbags.

We had a chance to ask the talented Farah Asmar a few questions, and here is what she had to say:

  • Tell us more about your start, how did you get into the handbag design business?

Given my artistic background, I always felt the need of having my own line; I have interned with a handbag designer in London after finishing my degree and realized my passion for handbags and the details it carries for both looks and practicality.

"I think of a smart practical lady who is looking for a twist added to her apparel.."

  • How do you best describe your designs?

My designs are a series of an idea, the horse-shoe shape has captured my heart and I started imagining shapes and details around that thought. I think of a smart practical lady who is looking for a twist added to her apparel so I make sure to bring in the best quality and finish using genuine leathers and exotic skins topped with gold-plated accessories.

  • Do you ever consider designing a bridal collection of clutches and bridal bags?

The idea has been on my list of things to do for a few months now, so hopefully by next summer we can design a limited edition for the big day and have it on Arabia Weddings.

"A romantic look will never fade away;

simplicity is always the key to glow on your day,

yet I find my taste shifting towards the dramatic bride."

Where can people find your bags?

The handbags are available on some online selling points and some regional boutiques in addition to exhibitions in Jordan. (www.farahasmar.com)

  • What are your latest favorite fashion trends?

They’re endless! But I always find myself in favor of lace and rock chic, in addition to the on-the-go city girl.

  • Any bridal trends that you personally like?

A romantic look will never fade away; simplicity is always the key to glow on your day, yet I find my taste shifting towards the dramatic bride.

  • Who are some of your favorite bridal designers?

Elie Saab, Vera Wang, Krikor Jabotian and Michael Cinco.
