A Chit Chat With Arabia Weddings: Fashion Designer Hama Hinnawi

Hama Hinnawi is one of the most popular Jordanian designers, known for her unique touches to traditional fashion.

We had the chance to chit chat with Hama and here is what she had to say:

  • Tell us more about your start, how did you get into the abaya design business?

What I work on is not only Abayas. I Work on how to make traditional clothing more wearable, casual, comfortable and affordable, such as skirts, blouses, dresses and scarves. I started because I wanted to raise awareness on traditional embroidery and design. I wanted traditional pieces to become easier to wear, and to spread across the world in a more contemporary style.

  • How would you describe your style of fashion and your designs?

I would say it’s unique, shows the love of your country and confident. Because every single piece has its own story, and suits all times and all ages, in the Arab world and internationally.

  • What materials, fabrics and colors did your use in the new collection?

Different materials, it depends on the piece and the design. For example what I use for a daily t-shirt is completely different than what I use for a abaya or evening dress. But I always have full embroidery on the items to get the perfect look I’m aiming for.

  • How can a woman choose the perfect abaya for her?

It depends on the occasion and her body shape, and what colors suit her more.

  • Where can people buy your Abayas?

They can either contact me through my website www.hamafashion.com or through my facebook page www.facebook.com/hamafashion or on all other social media networks under the name of ‘hamafashion’. I basically sell online or in my humble showroom in khalda.

  • Do you prefer modern abayas, classic abayas or a blend of both?

I love traditional abayas, but I concentrate in my designs on how to present the traditional abaya in a more contemporary style. It's all about the "trendy-oriental" theme.
