A Chit Chat with Arabia Weddings: Jiwwan
Jiwwan is an Emirati brand that creates beautiful modern Jalabiyas for the modern Arab woman.
Here is what Jiwwan's designer Iman Bin Hmeid had to share with us:
- Tell us more about your start, how did you get into the Jalabiya design business?
I started since 2 years where before that I was always sketching my own jalabiyas or redesigning any that I buy. I found myself at fashion design field where I can transform a specific form of art to be used in a jalabya and to combine colors. I get my inspiration from art work or nature sometimes, as well as, newly designed fabric to be used in my sketches.
My first initiative started from Zayed University Carnival which is an annual event to develop entrepreneurship among students. I started my first collection there where I found very good feedback from everyone and all the support from my family.
Since then I started implementing both my designing talent with my marketing and communication knowledge and create a base for my business.
- What materials, fabrics and colors did you use in the new collection?
I used a combination of velvets and silks with other minor elements like tulle or organza, and by looking at the colors, I combined some bright shades with dark shades to create a balance.
- How can a woman choose the perfect Jalabiya for her?
Women should always try to find a piece that shows her attractiveness and hide her flaws if there were any, choosing colors that matches her personality and making her feel energized and attractive.
- Do you prefer modern or classic Jalabiyas or a blend of both?
My strategy is always based on both because I believe that a combination of both will always be timeless and doesn’t specify who will wear the jalabya.
- Can a bride collaborate with you to design her own Henna Jalabiya or maybe even her engagement dress?
Yes I received requests lately to do so and hopefully my designs met my clients' expectations.
