DJ Tiesto's Desert Wedding by Colin Cowie
50-year-old Dutch musician, DJ Tiesto, married US model Annika, 23 years old, in a lavish, sun-drenched ceremony in the middle of the Utah desert at a 'futuristic resort' called Amangiri, in front of 80 guests. Chic and stunning, Amangiri is set against the most majestic mountains and exquisite views in Canyon Point, Utah.
The couple worked with event planner Colin Cowie to create moments that showcased the jaw-dropping views. The ceremony and cocktail portion of the evening had a soft palette to complement the sunset, while the dinner reflected a more moody vibe accented with warm, dynamic lighting that highlighted the surrounding rock formations.
Ceremony
"For the wedding ceremony, we were inspired by the juxtaposition of the contemporary cement patio and the undulating desert landscape, and wanted to create a chic look that complemented the space. We used only two materials to create the look – rectilinear mirror and wild, organic floral", said Colin Cowie.
The bridal party walked on an elevated cement aisle, beneath a series of mirrored arches that reflected the cement structure on one side, and the desert on the other. Absolute discipline and restraint was used in the design and conceptualization of the ceremony.
Dinner
"For dinner, we covered the spa pool, leaving small pools on each side with floating candles. We wanted to surround the space with fire energy, so we used literally thousands of candles to surround the space, cover the rock formations, and top the table. Guests were seated at 2 long black lacquer tables, swathed in anthracite chiffon. Flowers were moody, in deep shades of burgundies and purples, with accents of driftwood. Throughout the night, the lighting shifted from natural warm colors towards darker colors, adding movement as the rhythm increased", explained Colin Cowie.
Lead by Executive Chef Anthony Marazita, the Amangiri staff curated and served an incredible all organic, locally sourced farm-to-table dining experience. A fresh garden salad with goat cheese, and a warm beet tartlet with white and green asparagus was followed by a choice of an American beef tasting (short rib and prime grade strip) or a Cacio e Pepe. For dessert, guests were served Belgium Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwiches, alternating at each seat with Prickly Pear Tartlets, so guests could enjoy and share 2 different amazing dishes.
For late night dancing, the ceremony as reimagined as a nightclub. The arches used before were transitioned to entryways where wedding guests passed through mirrored curtains. DJ Coleman played and the dancing was jump started when an original song that Tiesto wrote and produced was played as a surprise for his bride.
