What You Need to Discuss Before Getting Married
Getting married is quite the big step, as you probably already know. It is a wonderful and exciting new journey you’re embarking on, and with that journey comes a lot of responsibilities and compromise.
Make sure you discuss the following topics with your partner before getting married to avoid any unresolved issues or future conflicts.
- Children: Discuss whether you want to have children directly after marriage or if you would like to wait for a while. Also talk about how many children you wish to have.
- Finances: Talk about the financial issues that you have in mind, your future plans and accounts.
- Start a savings account: Get into the habit of saving, have a joined bank account and save at least 10% of your income.
- Know each other’s families: Meet family members and get to know them.
- Go to the doctor: Both of you should get all the tests needed before you get married.
- Career: Is your partner well settled in his/her work? What are your future career plans and goals? Do they interfere with each other? Can you compromise your career?
- Past relationships: Trust is the most important thing in a relationship, if you or your partner had a past relationship, talk about it openly to get both closure and trust.
