A Chit Chat with Arabia Weddings: Atelier Curti

Atelier Curti held a fashion show at Bride Dubai 2014, and Arabia Weddings got a chance to meet with the designer Giada Curti and ask her some questions.

Here is what she had to say:

  • Tell us more about your start, how did you get into the fashion design business?

I grew up surrounded by fashion, thanks to my dearest grandmother Eva, proud owner of a successful atelier in the south of Italy.

I still remember myself as a little girl, captivated by our old ladies tailor’s craftsmanship in cutting and sewing meters of silk and French lace.

I was surrounded by my family’s love and passion for fashion in a company that has been for more than 50 years now part of the incredibly rich Italian tailoring tradition. Of course I cultivated my passion with dedicated studies and eventually found my lifetime love in fashion entrepreneur Antonio Curti.

  • How do you best describe your designs?

My creations are inspired by elegance and simplicity with a touch of Haute Couture craziness. I always try to find the perfect balance between classic and modern, bridal chastity and feminine sensuality, simplicity and sophistication.

I tend to privilege simple cuts with rich fabrics and play with insertions, overlapping and transparences. The aim is to always understand my woman, read her personality, and create together a gown that will reflect her most important characteristics and expectations.

  • Do you have a line exclusively for brides?

We have two lines: Giada Curti Haute Couture and Atelier Curti. The first is from Pret-Couture to evening and bridal, the second is only for bridal wear.

  • Can a bride collaborate with you to design her own wedding or engagement dress?

I always meet all my brides. It is important to have a chat together and become as close as possible in order to create their dream dress.

  • What are your latest favorite trends?

One of my latest favorite trends is to cover shoulders. I find it so elegant, especially when there’s a skillful play with transparence.

  • Any bridal trends that you personally like?

I like simple cuts enriched with Haute Couture details, but the masterpiece in all my designs is the fabric. The ability, in my view, is to choose the best fabric for each cut and mix it with elegance and balance.

  • Who are some of your favorite designer?

With no doubt, Valentino!

  • What advice can you give any bride-to-be when choosing a wedding dress?

Try not to give up your style and personality, and make sure you pick a dress that is not just one among many but rather one that reflects who you are.
