Beautiful Pearl Jewelry For Brides

Pearls are the oldest known gem, and for centuries they were considered the most valuable. Pearls have always been brides' favorite choice to wear on their special day. They're simple, elegant, and go perfectly well with the white dress no matter what shape it is.

Pearls are being used in every accessory a bride can need! Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, combs, tiaras, and even embroidered on the dress or veil.

Did you know that pearl is the only gem that is organic in nature? As it is found in certain living shells.

Pearls represent faithfulness, friendship, and loyalty; and they are also a  symbol of purity, chastity, and modesty.

In ancient Greece, pearls were thought to be formed when the tears of joy that fell from the eyes of goddess Aphrodite hardened.

The value of the pearls in jewelry is determined by a combination of the luster, color, size, lack of surface flaw, and symmetry that are appropriate for the type of pearl under consideration. Among those attributes, luster is the most important differentiator of pearl quality according to jewelers.

Know Your Pearls

Pearls have so many names, types, and colors, and you definitely need to know what you're looking for.

Pearls come in 8 basic shapes: round, semi-round, button, drop, pear, oval, baroque, and circled. Perfectly round pearls are the rarest and most valuable shape. Drop and pear-shaped pearls are sometimes referred to as teardrop pearls and are most often seen in earrings, pendants, or as a center pearl in a necklace.

Pearls can be either naturally cultivated or man-made. In general, cultured pearls are less valuable than natural pearls.

  • Freshwater Pearls: These pearls are found in freshwater muscles, lakes or rivers. They also come in different shapes and sizes.
  • Saltwater Pearls: These pearls are found in saltwater oysters, oceans, seas, or gulf.
  • Abalone Pearls: These pearls are actually blue! Who knew?
  • Akoya Pearls: Akoya pearls are sought for their perfectly round shape, they come in colors ranging from light pink, yellowish-white, or white.
  • Black Pearls: Black pearls are natural black freshwater pearls or pearls dyed black or any dark-colored pearl.
  • Seed Pearls: These pearls are small in size; as small as a seed.

So, if you are in doubt as to what jewelry to wear at your wedding, you will not go wrong by wearing a set of beautiful elegant pearls.
