Thieves Found Selling Corpses for Ghost Marriage in China

Grave robbers were found selling dead brides in Rurual China for an ancient ritual called "ghost marriage".

Some families believe that it is bad luck for single men to pass into the afterlife without a bride by his side, and some are paying 10,000 for a female corpse for him to be buried with.

This ritual is popular in rural China; the village of Dongbao in China’s northern Shanxi province suffered 15 corpse thefts in just three years.

53-year-old Li Fucai told The Sunday Telegraph: “Who knows where they took my mother? She is now ill-gotten gains for thieves.”

Remains of those who have recently passed away are more expensive but decomposed skeletons can be reinforced with steel wires before they are clothed.
