DIY Boutonniere for the Groom

Boutonnieres are a very elegant accessory that grooms can wear on their wedding day to make them stand out.

The boutonniere has to match with the color scheme of the wedding, the bridal bouquet and the bridesmaids’ dresses. The flower used for the boutonniere should be the same type of flower used in the bridal bouquet and other arrangements.

Here is an easy step-by-step guide posted on Bride Craft. Here is what you will need:

  • Any type of flower, choose your favorite, his favorite, or your wedding flower.
  • Scissors or knife
  • Tape
  • Wire
  • Pin

Now here is what you should do…

  • Cut the stem of the flower, about 2-3 cm under the bloom.
  • Insert 1 wire through the stem horizontally.
  • Insert a 2nd wire also horizontally through the stem creating an X.

  • Bend the wires down.
  • Starting at the base of the flower head, begin winding tape around the stem.
  • Continue winding down over the wires, until the wires are completely covered by the self-adhesive-tape.

  • Take your pen or pencil and wind the tape covered wire stem around and around the tube until it is nicely curled. Slide the pencil out.

  • To keep the flower fresh, put in a zip lock bag, and in the fridge to make it last longer.
